The Ships Log Blog

The Ships Log Blog detailing our daily life afloat is updated frequently including contributions from all members of the crew. Our Ham radio allows us to post updates to the Blog from at sea or at anchor. I enjoy story telling and sharing our adventure, while the kids will be keeping an electronic journal as part of their home schooling work. Getting the perspective of cruising from the kid's point of view should prove to be entertaining and informative.

Location Tracker

When we transmit an email message or update our "Ships Log Blog" from sea over our Ham Radio, our current latitude and longitude are transmitted and displayed on a world map. The "Location Tracker" will let you see where in the world we are current cruising and if we are underway, information such as our current speed, course, and wind conditions will be listed. After concerns about the kid's education, the next most frequently asked question is how can you afford to take time out from the world of making money and go cruising.

Cruising DVDs

If you want to learn more about our cruising DVDs and how we produce them or if you are interested in purchasing one of our cruising DVDs check out the "Cruising DVDs" section. Our first release will be of the 2008 Fabulous Fifteen Baja Ha-ha Cruisers Rally and is slated for release in May 2009

Cost of Cruising

For those wanting to see what it actually costs to take a family of four cruising, check out the "Cost of Cruising" section where we will be posting our entire monthly cruising budget. We will be tracking and reporting every cost, from health and boat insurance to food, snacks, and boat maintenance/repair.

Third Day Missions

Most cruisers spend a lot of time coming up with a boat name that reflects their attitude towards life or their purpose for cruising. Lori hit a home run when she came up with THIRD DAY. For the full meaning of our boat name and to learn more about the Boren Family's efforts in spreading the Gospel of Christ and how you can help, check out the "Third Day Missions" section.

Links/Services

In our cruise preparation we found many helpful websites including equipment vendors, sailing vessel websites, cruising bulletin boards, and all sort of sites that helped us get ready and continue to help us while out cruising. On the "Links/Services" section of our site, you will find links to almost every site you would need to plan your cruise, buy and refit a boat, and cast off your own dock lines.

Video - Slides/Movies

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then what is the worth of our "Video" section with photos and movies from all phases of our trip? The memories behind them are priceless to us, but free for you to check out to get a feel for what it is like for a family of four to be out cruising on a 36ft sailboat. Our cruise and sailing philosophy follows the KISS principal of "Keep It Simple Stupid".

Contact Us - Contact Info/Mailing List

Just because THIRD DAY is a 30yr old boat, that doesn't mean we haven't sprung for some modern communications technology. Our Marine SSB/Ham radio allows us to keep in contact with family members back at home both through direct radio contact and email. To find out the details of our communication equipment and if you have a question for us, visit the "Contact us" link, because we would love to hear from you.

Special Thanks

We wanted to give a word of thanks to Mark Proudy for his excellant design and support work for this website. We could have never put something so professional together without his guidance and hours of hard work. His contact link is proudly located at the bottom of each page, and if you are looking for someone to assist you in designing and setting up a website, he couldn't receive any higher recommendation from the crew of THIRD DAY. Thanks for everything Mark
